Child-Centred
Play Therapy

For all children in Bristol

Play Therapy is specialised counselling, uniquely suited to children. It helps them process emotional struggles, understand their thoughts and feelings, build healthier coping strategies and a stronger sense of self.  It is suitable and beneficial for all children aged 4 to 12.

Many children experience positive change through Play Therapy, including increased:

  • Confidence and self-esteem

  • Emotional regulation

  • Stronger, more positive relationships

  • A sense of personal agency

  • Focus and attention

In the safety of the playroom, and within a warm, trusting relationship, children express themselves freely and begin to find new ways forward. Play Therapy can support everything from everyday worries to more complex emotional challenges and trauma.

If you’d like to find out more about how I can support your child and your family, please get in touch using the form below or call me on 07748 964201.

ABOUT ME

I am Tara, a child-centered Play Therapist with extensive experience supporting children’s emotional, social, and developmental needs across school and community settings.

I am qualified with a Diploma in Play Therapy (PTUK), registered therapist (membership no. 201903019), and further specialised through the Play Therapy Professional Programme with Dr. Brenna Hicks and trained in attachment with the Gordon Neufeld Institute.

I am passionate about helping all of us - children and adults - to find delight in each other again. Parents and carers often get in touch to say something just isn't right and they're not sure what - coming here gives the time and space for things to come to light and shift. It's a gentle yet powerful process that has long-lasting benefits.

I am DBS checked, insured, and registered with the ICO regarding data protection.

WHAT TO EXPECT

HOW LONG DOES PLAY THERAPY TAKE?

Children come to Play therapy once a week for 45 minutes. It varies from child to child how long they will need to come for, but on average, children attend for around 35 sessions - roughly one school year. When problems have persisted for a long time or are complex, I recommend that the whole family takes a year to pause a little, to observe their child, and to work with me to rebalance family dynamics. We meet once every term to do this at no extra cost.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

£50 per session.

You can choose to pay every week, or to be invoiced once per term - around 6 sessions at once. It can feel expensive paying for therapy for your child, I sometimes suggest to think about it as one year in your child's life that sets them up for life. It somehow feels easier! Please get in touch about concessions for those who live in the BS2 area and further concessions for children from the BS2 area of Black African/Caribbean heritage.

WHERE WILL IT HAPPEN?

I work from my home in St. Paul's, Bristol.

OKAY, WHATS THE FIRST THING THAT WILL HAPPEN?

Contact me via the contact form and I will get in touch to arrange a phone call. I will tell you a little about how Play therapy works and what availability I have. If you would like to take it further we will have an in-person meeting in the playroom. At this meeting you can tell me all about your child and what you think is going on for them, and I can let you know how Play therapy will help. If you would like to go ahead, we fill out all the paperwork and your child will begin the following week. There is no pressure to say yes at this meeting, and do please feel free to get in touch even if you're not sure. There is a lot to get your head around when sending your child to therapy and I'm really open to that being a thoughtful, spacious process with no particular outcome.

When something is understood, it radiates.
